Sales girl Agnes Towler is seen by waiter Victor Colleano as a kindred spirit; by Henri Leclair as an ingénue; by her brother as his rock; and by her father as an overreaching fraud. But the intelligent and spirited working class girl -- with little more than pluck, a solid work ethic and a strong moral character -- is still largely unformed. In Harry and Henri's inspiring proximity, she is blossoming, just like the rose she offers Henri for his Selfridges window. In her violent, drunken father's proximity, however, she is in danger of losing everything.
