Lois, Harry's stoic and supportive mother, accompanies the family to London. A former schoolteacher, she has always pushed Harry to follow his dreams and challenged him not to give up. She knows her son's strengths and weaknesses well, making her his ultimate rock.
Lois is also both a witness and author of Harry's rags to riches story. While she regales her beloved grandchildren with the same stories she told her son throughout his childhood -- about Harry's father, Major Selfridge, who died a Civil War hero -- she is hiding a truth intended to protect her son. But that truth has the power to damage him irreparably.
