Organized in 1973, the contemporary Academy of Ancient Music takes its name from a charitable 18th-century organization. It is a 'period-instrument' orchestra, internationally renowned for its concerts and recordings of Baroque, Classical and early Romantic era music. Its prize-winning recordings include Mozart's La clemenza di Tito, Haydn's Orfeo ed Euridice and recently, Handel's Rinaldo, which was awarded Gramophone (2001) and Cannes Classical (2002) awards.
