White Teeth: The Soundtrack

Stiff Little Fingers Stiff Little Fingers
Suspect Device

Belfast band Stiff Little Fingers, inspired early on by The Clash, began playing covers of punk songs. Their early successes, Suspect Device and Wasted Life were expressions of their life in Belfast and were representative of the energized punk that would become their forte.

Their 1979 Inflammable Material album, a rage against "the Troubles" in Northern Ireland, debuted at number 14 in the UK:

Don't believe them
Don't believe them
Question everything you're told
Just take a look around you
At the bitterness and spite
Why can't we take over and try to put it right
     --from Suspect Device

The band, whose albums generally contain an "Explicit Lyrics!" warning, split in early '83 but reunited in '87 to sell-out crowds.
