Yury Zhivago
Yury, a young man living in Moscow, a poet and a doctor

Hans Matheson
Assuming the role of poet and physician Yury Zhivago is not the first time Scottish actor Hans Matheson has played a character caught up in revolutionary times. He starred as Marius, the charismatic young Parisian revolutionary, in Bille August's film adaptation of Les Misérables.

Matheson played Mordred, King Arthur's illegitimate son, in the star-studded The Mists Of Avalon, was Silver Johnny in the original stage production and movie Mojo, and guitarist Luke Shand in the Golden Globe-nominated Still Crazy. Other credits include Stella Does Tricks, Canone Inverso and The Future Lives A Long Time.

Celia Imrie
Celia Imrie has had along and established career in film, television and theatre. Film credits include Bridget Jones's Diary, Hilary and Jackie, Star Wars: Episode I, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, The Borrowers and The Harmfulness of Tobacco, which won the British Academy Award for Best Short Film in 1991. She has appeared on television in Absolutely Fabulous, A Dark Adapted Eye, Gormenghast, Love in a Cold Climate and Daniel Deronda; her many theatrical credits include an award winning role in Sam Mendes's production of The Sea.

Bill Paterson
Bill Paterson, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, has appeared in many dramatic productions including Masterpiece Theatre's Othello, Wives and Daughters and Traffik, and theatrical releases Hilary and Jackie; Truly, Madly, Deeply and Spice World. He received the 1997 BAFTA Scotland Award as Best Actor for his performance in the television mini-series The Crow Road.

Alexandra Maria Lara
Actress Alexandra Maria Lara was born in Budapest and moved to Germany as a young child. She starred alongside John Malkovich, Isabella Rossellini and Gerard Depardieu in Napoleon (2002). Lara has a wide range of film and television credits to her name in Germany, and was nominated for a 2001 New Faces award for her role in escape drama Der Tunnel (The Tunnel).

Daniele Liotti
Liotti was a law student and also played football for Rome's youth team before making the switch to acting. He is well known to Italian audiences, originally as a regular cast member in the television series Operazione Odissea and subsequently through film roles. He recently played Saint Antony in the film of his life, Sant'Antonio di Padova. He appears with Paul Sorvino and Gerard Depardieu in the supernatural comedy movie Streghe Verso Nord, plays the male lead in the historical romance Juana la Loca (aka Mad Love), and in the tragic Broken Heart is bodyguard to the daughter of a Mafia chief.

Hugh Bonneville
The 6'2" Bonneville earned a BAFTA nomination and carried off the Best Young Actor Prize at the 2001 Berlin Film Festival for his performance in Iris as the young John Bayley, Iris Murdoch's husband, opposite Kate Winslet.

Bonneville launched his acting career with the National Youth Theatre, simultaneously studying theology at Cambridge University. He was seen with Hugh Grant in Notting Hill and in the previous Masterpiece Theatre productions Daniel Deronda, Madame Bovary, The Cazalets and Take a Girl Like You.

Sam Neill
International movie star Sam Neill was acclaimed for his role in the Oscar-winning The Piano and is perhaps best known to current film audiences through his lead role in Jurassic Park and its sequels. Born in Northern Ireland, Neill grew up and began his career in New Zealand and, in addition to acting, has worked as a writer, director and editor. He was awarded the OBE for service to acting in 1993 and was named Best Actor on British Television for the mini-series Reilly: Ace Of Spies, for which he was also nominated for a Golden Globe. The Australian Film Institute awarded him Best Performance In A Leading Role for A Cry In The Dark. Other credits include The Dish, The Omen, The Horse Whisperer, Dead Calm, The Hunt For Red October and Plenty.

Keira Knightley
Rapidly rising superstar, 18 year-old Keira Knightley has appeared in Bend It Like Beckham, The Pirates of the Caribbean and the Richard Curtis film, Love Actually with Liam Neeson and Hugh Grant. One of her earliest roles was as Sabé, the Queen's (Natalie Portman) double in Star Wars: Episode I -- Phantom Menace. Upcoming films include King Arthur (in which Knightley plays Guinevere to Clive Owen's Arthur), and Tulip Fever with Jude Law and Jim Broadbent.

Kris Marshall won the award for Best Comedy Newcomer for My Family in 2000 from the British Comedy Awards. His credits also include roles in Iris, The Four Feathers and the Richard Curtis film Love Actually, with Keira Knightley.

Anne-Marie Duff has appeared in previous Masterpiece Theatre productions Aristocrats and The Way We Live Now. She played the role of Margaret in the acclaimed film The Magdalene Sisters.

Jan Unger has worked on both sides of the camera, appearing in the film version of Les Misérables and working on the crew of The Affair of the Necklace. He is currently (Fall/2003) working as an actor on The Brothers Grimm with Matt Damon and Heath Ledger.
