Dr. StoneMichael Greyeyes Once head of the ER at Santa Fe General Hospital, Dr. Stone has returned to work on the reservation as a native practitioner of Western medicine. His character is new to the story, appearing in the screenplay but not the book. In the novel, Dr. Stone is Dr. Bahe Yellowhorse, a tribal councilman, member of the Tribal Council Judiciary, and a doctor. Of Cree descent, actor Michael Greyeyes hails from the Qu'Appelle Valley in Saskatchewan, Canada. His performance career began at the age of 10, when he was the first Canadian Native boy to be accepted into the National Ballet School in Toronto, Canada. He later performed as a member of the National Ballet of Canada's corps de ballet and as a soloist with Feld Ballet in New York City. In 1995 the Canada Council awarded him a grant as choreographer to study powwow, the modern form of traditional Indian dancing, and he was featured in the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation documentary He Who Dreams: Michael Greyeyes on The Powwow Trail. Appearing in Smoke Signals and Dance Me Outside alongside Adam Beach, Greyeyes has acted in a number of feature films, including Firestorm, Rude, The Lost Child, Skipped Parts, and Zigzag. On television, he has won roles in Geronimo; Crazy Horse; The Lost Child; Race Against Time; Rough Riders; True Women; and Stolen Women, Captured Hearts. He has received four best actor awards from First Americans In The Arts (FAITA), an organization that recognizes Native achievement in the media. Most recently he can seen as Billy Trucks in John Sayles' Sunshine State.
