A Murder is Announced Airing Sundays, May 1 + 8, 2005 on PBS (Check local listings; dates and times may vary) Terrific performances... the producers have corralled a gaggle of some of England's finest actors... The new series ..manages to be faithful to Christie's character and storylines, while providing enough modern touches to keep things from getting too musty... -- The New York Times (McEwan's) delightful! -- Philadelphia Daily News The villagers of Chipping Cleghorn are agog with curiosity over an advertisement in the local gazette which reads: 'A murder is announced and will take place on Friday, September 25th, at Little Paddocks at 7.30pm.' A childish practical joke? Or a hoax intended to terrify poor Letitia Blacklock (Zoë Wanamaker, Harry Potter)? Unable to resist the mysterious invitation, a crowd begins to gather at Little Paddocks at the appointed time when, without warning, the lights go out, a man bursts into the room and fires three shots... Miss Marple, visiting an old friend in the village, can't resist joining the investigation. Says producer Matthew Read: 'I am delighted that (screenwriter) Stewart Harcourt's adaptation has attracted such a strong team to join Geraldine McEwan. A Murder Is Announced is one of the most tightly plotted and best loved books by Agatha Christie.' Also starring Elaine Paige (star of Evita and Cats on the London stage), Keeley Hawes (Lucky Jim, Wives and Daughters), Robert Pugh (Master and Commander, Prime Suspect 6), Cherie Lunghi (Inspector Lynley, David Copperfield), Christian Coulson (The Forsyte Saga [2002], Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) and Sienna Guillory (Take a Girl Like You, Love Actually).
