Who Killed the Very Reverend Toby Spoon?
You selected Lavinia Hawkmoth
Yes, it was indeed Lavinia Hawkmoth who viciously murdered the Very Reverend Toby Spoon! She quietly entered the private study, never for one moment intending to go for a walk, picked up the heavy fire poker, and, from behind the chair, gave the Reverend a severe blow to the head. It's quite clear that Spoon was not her intended victim, though. No, she was after Lord Snuffington; her object was to secure his fortune for herself and her future husband. How did you come to your conclusion? You were, no doubt, clever enough to remember Hawkmoth's claim that she exited the manor through the library doors. Then, upon inspection of the library doors, you discovered that, not only were they locked, but that there were cobwebs attached to the doors. Perhaps you also checked the French doors within the private study as well. These, as you know, were unlocked. And what if Hawkmoth had indeed gone outside for a walk but instead used the study's exit? Then she would have been the last person to be with Reverend Spoon, as she was the last to return to the dining room. At any rate, she explicitly said that she had "exited the manor through the library's French doors."
Now arrest that woman!
