Based on the actual friendship between the budding mystery author Arthur Conan Doyle and Dr. Joseph Bell, his sagacious surgery professor at the University of Edinburgh Medical School -- Doyle's real-life model for his immortal Sherlock Holmes, Murder Rooms stars Charles Edwards (Rebecca, Mansfield Park) as young Doyle and Ian Richardson (House of Cards, Gormenghast) as venerable Dr. Bell.
