A mother and daughter are discovered, murdered, by Detective Sergeant Hal Hawksley (Christopher Fulford) -- and the shock of the grisly find prompts him to quit the force. Five years later, Rosalind Lee (Caroline Goodall) is assigned to write a book about the infamous murders and the confessed killer, Olive Martin (Pauline Quirke), known less-than-affectionately as "The Sculptress." Roz finds herself curiously drawn to her strange subject -- and, despite Olive's protestations, the possibility that Olive is innocent. But if Olive is innocent, who is she protecting, and why?

Digging deeper into Olive Martin's background, Rosalind (Caroline Goodall) and Hal (Christopher Fulford) stumble on a property scam that involves Hal's own restaurant and Olive's (Pauline Quirke) deceased father's money and solicitor. The plot thickens when Roz investigates Olive's allegation that her father and a male neighbor were having an affair.
