The private eye with a perm, played by Patricia Routledge (Talking Heads 2), takes on a steroid king, a demonic dog, and a Victorian misogynist. Joining her are other members of the Wainthropp Detective Agency: hubby and budding newspaper pundit, Robert (Derek Benfield); teenage sidekick, Geoffrey (Dominic Monaghan), and his truck-driving darling, Janet (Suzanne Maddock).
