Desktop Diaries: Sylvia Earle

Name the world-famous scientist who shares an office with a moray eel, a flock of (real) geese and a shrunken head. If you answered “oceanographer and explorer Sylvia Earle,” you would have been correct. We would also have accepted: “Who is Her Deepness?” Earle is an explorer-in-residence at the National Geographic and has desks all over the country. We stopped by her Oakland, California home-base for another installment in our Desktop Diaries series.

Flora Lichtman

    Flora Lichtman is Science Friday’s correspondent and managing editor of video, where she makes videos for the web and chats about them on the radio. She’s the co-author of “Annoying: The Science Of What Bugs Us” (Wiley, 2011) and writes regularly for Popular Science magazine. Before coming to Science Friday, Flora worked at a NATO oceanographic lab in Italy. She graduated from Yale University with a degree in Environmental Studies.
