Codebreaker Hall of Fame

Below are the five winners of the Crack the Ciphers contest NOVA Online ran between November 5 and 19, 1999. We list them in order of when they succeeded in cracking Cipher #1, which we determined by when their emailed solution arrived at our offices. (Alas, no one managed to break Ciphers 2 or 3 in that time period.) Each name links to comments both by the entrant on how he or they went about solving the cipher and by Jim Gillogly, designer of the ciphers, about the entrant's method of attack. Congratulations to our winners!

*Though the contest officially ended on 11/19, we allowed this entry for good effort.
