Hair
In an experiment that holds out hope for remedying baldness, a team from
Durham University in the U.K. succeeded recently in getting the hair of
researcher Dr. Colin Jahoda to grow on the inner arm of his wife, Dr. Amanda
Reynolds. As reported in Nature (11/4/99), cells from Jahoda's hair follicles
were transplanted without rejection into Reynolds' skin, whose own cells triggered
the hair growth following instructions from the transplanted cells.
