Heart Valves For patients whose heart valves have deteriorated from age, disease, or other causes, researchers are testing bioengineered valves. Taken from a pig and chemically cleared of all cells, the valves can be implanted into human patients without chance of rejection. Cells from nearby tissues then infiltrate the new valve. (15) |
