As the men pulling on the ropes jerk the obelisk forward, the pivoting log, a crucial part of Whitby's design, twists dangerously. If the log jerks forward any more, the obelisk will tumble over the edge of the ramp.

The rigging team pounds on the log to move it back from the edge and into position. The men pull the obelisk forward again, and again the log jerks forward perilously.
