Wayne Neel, a professor of mechanical engineering at Virginia Military Institute, builds a model trebuchet. This one stands on wooden legs rather than wheels. When his prototype is launched, it rears up and slams down again dangerously. Such an action in a fully realized trebuchet could very well destroy it.
