Israel has not formally declared its nuclear capabilities, but it is believed
to have several possible nuclear -delivery systems in its arsenal. During the
Gulf War, Israel made oblique references to nuclear attack as a possible
response to Saddam Hussein's threats to use chemical weapons against it.
American spy satellites are known to have taken photographs of Israel at full
nuclear alert, with deployed nuclear launchers facing Iraq. Though experts
cannot be certain, Israel is believed to have a large nuclear-weapons
infrastructure in place.
