Fuel
Since the only trees in Antarctica are in fossil form, there is not a scrap of
wood for burning, and the only petroleum sources lie deep beneath ice sheets or
the seafloor. Your only chance of obtaining fuel is to kill a seal, whose
blubber contains fat and oils. A square foot of seal blubber will burn for
several hours, though it generates copious amounts of oily, sooty smoke. You
don't need to shelter blubber fires, however, because they thrive in wind (the
stronger the better), and once you've burned your blubber, you can eat the
cinders.
