Sky and clouds The sky and clouds are part of a digital matte painting created in the computer. Just ten years ago, artists would create backgrounds like this one by painting on glass, a standard in the effect bag of tricks for eight decades. The technique is still in use; certain shots of icebergs and the ship Carpathia in "Titanic" include glass matte paintings.
