            Disturbing as they are, aerial images like this one of the Nazi
            death camp at Auschwitz had no effect on the camp's operations after
            they were taken, because the photos were collected incidentally as
            part of bomb-strike imagery of the nearby IG Farben chemical plant.
            CIA photo interpreters discovered the imagery decades later. Aerial
            photos like this one were the precursors to far more sophisticated
            satellite imagery to come.
