Sphinx of Psammetichus with head, inv. no. 1008b. Ensemble at Kom el Dikka.
The head, broken and eroded, was found beneath the body. The First name of Psammetichus II
(Neferibre) is engraved on the plastron. The royal title, which was symetrically engraved on the two sides of the
base, is now only legible on the right-hand side. The mention of the Heliopolitan gods - Atoum & Re-Horakhty - indicates with certainty the original
provenance.
