Stranger in the Mirror

Classroom Activity

Objective
To learn what is involved with visual agnosia.

Materials for each team
  • copy of "Give It a Second Look" student handout (HTML)
Procedure
  1. Your students can practice some of the analytical skills used by people with visual agnosia. Copy and distribute the "Give It a Second Look" student handout to give them a feel for what it might be like to have this disorder.

  2. Some students may interpret the images quickly, some might take a while, and some might never see them. After the activity, discuss the experience with students:

    • What strategies did they use to help them decipher the pictures?

    • Did they infer something about the whole shape? If so, what?

Activity Answer
