Ideas from Teachers

(Gr. 4-12) Immediately prior to beginning our mini-unit on Everest I located a man who was a climber and he brought in slides and his climbing equipment and explained how everything worked. He also rappelled off the overpass right next to our school. I also created a bulletin board of newspaper and internet articles on breaking news about Everest. Hint: Do the lesson in May when the climbing season begins—the current events tie-in is stronger then. These ideas could be used with NOVA's "Everest—The Death Zone"
program. Sent in by Steve McCarville St. Pius X-St. Leo School Omaha, NE
