Objective
To learn how ice cores help scientists learn about ancient climates. Materials Procedure
Working individually or in pairs, students explore NOVA's "Warnings from the Ice" Web site. The student handout focuses on the "Stories in the Ice" portion of the Web site with approximately 40 directions and questions. The focus on a lot of the questions is reading and interpreting the graphs that are part of the Web site. Standardized tests in Michigan measure this skill so it is something that our teachers work with students on in every core class. At the conclusion, students are asked to explore the other links and write a summary. We also have a school goal of improving student writing skills. Assessment
