(Gr. 11-12) I developed two lesson plans around NOVA's "Ancient Creature of the Deep"
program. The first one I call, "Unusual Characteristics of the Coelacanth." I have students compare and contrast the characteristics of the Coelacanth with the average bony fish. In the second lesson, I use the NOVA Web feature "Ancient Creature of the Deep." I have students read the "Other Fish in the Sea" essay by Lexi Krock and then do a jigsaw activity. I assign one of the eight fossil fishes to each group of four students. They do further research on their type of fish and then report back to the class. If you would like copies of the lessons, please e-mail me. Sent in by Beth Marass Sanford High School Sanford, Maine bmarass@sanford.org
