Volcano Under the City

Ideas from Teachers

(Gr. 9-12)
Objective
To determine potentially dangerous volcanos from carbon dioxide-sulfur dioxide ratios.

Materials

  • paper
  • pencil

Procedure
From three or four scenarios, based on actual volcanic data, the students will determine the probability of volcanic eruptions of each detailed volcano. The data would include, but not be limited to, carbon dioxide-sulfur dioxide ratios, mineral crystallization in lava samples, temperatures of surrounding fissures, etc.

Assessment
Students will be able to evaluate the data and form objective, logical analysis of data to predict probable volcanic eruptions.
