Dry eyes, scratchy throat, headaches, dizziness, fatigue . . . this combination of symptoms might make a person want to stay home from the office- especially if the office is in a "sick building." Although many of us think of air quality and air pollution as outdoor problems, they are becoming increasingly common in modern buildings. In this program, NOVA follows a team of environmental scientists and engineers investigating buildings that literally make people sick. Trying to find the cause of people's illnesses, the scientists collect data from a variety of sources. Some of their work involves investigating air quality problems, such as chemical fumes, pollution in air conditioner ducts, and microscopic dust mites. Each test gives the researchers insight into the causes of sick building syndrome.
