Before Watching
Ask students to discuss what they know about how and why certain animals became extinct. Make a list of students' answers on the board. Next ask them to consider which of these causes are due to human influences, and mark those items on the list. While watching the program, ask the students to think about what kind of steps people should take to prevent or reverse extinction.
After Watching
Based on what they observed in this program, ask students to discuss the benefits and drawbacks of the California condor captive breeding program. What are the most compelling reasons for going forward with the plan? What reasons make the plan seem inappropriate?
