Uranus Sorry. This is Uranus, the solar system's third largest planet in diameter. It was discovered in 1781 by William Herschel, but has only been visited by one spacecraft, Voyager 2. Uranus is made up of mostly rock and ice. Its interesting blue color comes from the methane found in its atmosphere, which absorbs red light.
