MarsSorry, wrong. But you're getting closer. You chose Mars, the solar system's seventh largest planet in diameter. Early in its development Mars was probably similar to the Earth, but it didn't develop liquid water. Martian temperatures vary from 150 K to 295 K. Several spacecraft have visited Mars; Mariner 4 was the first one to do so in 1965. More visits are planned in 1997. Mars made the news in August 1996 when scientists announced they found possible evidence of ancient microorganisms in a Martian meteorite.
