Series Senior Editor Andrew Metz
Andrew Metz is FRONTLINE’s Series Senior Editor. With Deputy Executive Producer Raney Aronson-Rath and Executive Producer David Fanning, he oversees the editorial mission for FRONTLINE, working with journalists to develop and produce original stories, reviewing reporting for all FRONTLINE’s programming and helping to manage collaborations with the series’ journalism partners.
Throughout his career in journalism, he has been a foreign and national correspondent, local newspaper reporter and television producer. Between 2006 and 2013, he worked at the CBS program, 60 Minutes, where he was a frequent producer for Lesley Stahl, as well as other correspondents on the broadcast. His pieces examined subjects from police corruption in Chicago to globalization and the U.S. job market; illegal animal trafficking in Madagascar to the Vatican’s dispute with American nuns. In 2006 and 2007, he was part of a team that exposed flaws in the rape case against three Duke lacrosse players, and in 2009, he was one of the producers of the Emmy-winning first interviews with the pilot, crew and passengers of the US Airways plane that crashed in the Hudson River.
Prior to 60 Minutes, Metz spent about a decade at the New York newspaper, Newsday, where he reported extensively from Gaza, the West Bank and Israel on the violent conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. As a Newsday national correspondent, he covered domestic news and politics and wrote long-form pieces and series from around the country. He also served as the paper’s state correspondent, statehouse bureau chief, and covered criminal justice. Previously, he was a reporter at the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Palm Beach Post.
In 2000, he was awarded a Pew/International Reporting Project Fellowship at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, which supported his reporting throughout the Middle East for a series on the role of water in conflict in the region.
Metz grew up in Vermont and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Hamilton College. He studied history at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland and has a Master’s Degree in Journalism from New York University.
