Host a Screening

FRONTLINE’s Community Engagement Campaign DVD

Dropping out of high school has devastating consequences, not only for students and schools, but for communities and our nation. Schools alone cannot prevent every dropout, but adults can help by getting involved in community dropout prevention activities. FRONTLINE is taking action, too. Our specially edited DVD is available as a free resource for screening events aimed at building awareness about the dropout crisis and sparking community action.

Why Host a Screening?

Be a part of the growing national movement to end the high school dropout crisis. A Dropout Nation community screening can create awareness about the impact of dropouts on your community and help you build strong partnerships between community organizations, schools, parents and students to improve graduation rates. It can jumpstart development of a community action plan for addressing the dropout crisis, and it can be the first step in a personal journey to help prepare students for success.

About the DVD

FRONTLINE’s The Middle School Moment reports on a growing body of evidence that suggests that the make-or-break moment for high school dropouts may actually be in middle school, and yet middle schools, with their vulnerable population, have long been overlooked. Now a group of dedicated educators are thrusting middle school onto center stage, using data to find the answer to the middle school malaise. This 15 minute video will jump start your community’s around the importance of supporting students in their middle school years.

Discussion Guide

The Middle School Moment discussion guide will advance your community conversations by helping audiences understand the dropout crisis and consider how to take action. It provides basic information about how to organize a video screening; offers data to help facilitators set the context of the dropout problem nationally; and provides information about dropouts at the state and local levels.

Community Action Planning

Our screening kit also includes a range of useful resources links to effective dropout prevention programs, with tips on creating a plan of action to get your community involved in ending the dropout crisis.

To get a free DVD from FRONTLINE send us your screening date and details by September 15, 2012. Email Sandy St. Louis, Project Manager, sandy_stlouis@wgbh.org or call 617-300-5312.
