When Hunting the Nightmare Bacteria aired last fall, our look at the rise of antibiotic-resistant “superbugs” drew a flood of passionate responses from FRONTLINE viewers — many of them urging us to examine the political and scientific debate over the use of antibiotics in farm animals.

In The Trouble with Antibiotics, premiering Oct. 14, we’ll do exactly that.

Next month, we’ll also reinvestigate the controversial Texas execution of Cameron Todd Willingham in Death by Fire 2, bring you an hourlong version of our acclaimed special Losing Iraq, and deliver our chilling new report on The Rise of ISIS.

Here’s a closer look at our October lineup:

Oct. 7: Death by Fire 2

Did Texas execute an innocent man? FRONTLINE reinvestigates the case of Cameron Todd Willingham, who was executed for the arson deaths of his three children. Advancing the recent reporting by the Marshall Project in the Washington Post, Death by Fire 2 will include an exclusive on-camera interview with Johnny Webb, a key witness at Willingham’s trial who now disavows his testimony that Willingham confessed to setting the fire that killed his children, alleging that it was the result of a secret deal with the prosecutor.

Oct. 14: The Trouble with Antibiotics

In a two-part hour, FRONTLINE examines the growing crisis of antibiotic resistance. First, correspondent David Hoffman investigates the widespread use of antibiotics in food animals and whether it is fueling the growing crisis of antibiotic resistance in people. Also this hour: An exclusive new interview with the family of a young man who died in a nightmare bacteria outbreak that swept through a hospital at the National Institutes of Health.

Oct. 21: Losing Iraq

This hour-long version of Michael Kirk’s widely praised July special revisits FRONTLINE’s reporting on U.S. missteps in Iraq since 2003 — and how as American troops withdrew, the stage was set for a deadly adversary to rise up.

Oct. 28: The Rise of ISIS

Correspondent Martin Smith (Truth, War & Consequences; Beyond Baghdad; Private Warriors, Gangs of Iraq) — recently named as the recipient of a major journalism honor, the John Chancellor Award — reports from Iraq on how and why the brutal jihadist group ISIS came to power, how Iraq began coming undone after the American withdrawal, and what it means for the U.S. to be fighting there again.
