If, like me, you’ve been a longtime FRONTLINE fan you’ve probably noticed big changes on the website in the past year. As part of our efforts to expand our digital journalism as the series moves toward a “post-broadcast” future, I’ve been hired as FRONTLINE’s new digital reporter. As I get started, I wanted to take a moment to tell you more about who I am, and why I’m here.
You’ll be hearing a lot from me as I keep you updated on the stories and characters we’ve all gotten to know and care about from FRONTLINE’s rich archive of films. I also hope to provide you with fresh analysis and reporting on the many issues we cover. I’ll be collaborating with my colleagues, Azmat Khan and Gretchen Gavett, both great writers who you’ve already gotten to know through their coverage on the site.
Here’s my story: I started out as a reporter in 2003 for Newsweek magazine, covering national news, including Hurricane Katrina. In 2006, I headed to Iraq to cover the war. I joined The Wall Street Journal in 2007, and reported on sub-Saharan Africa from Nairobi, Kenya. I recently came home to the U.S., where I’ve worked for the past several months as an editor at GlobalPost.
I’ll have a broad slate at FRONTLINE, since we cover everything from business to human rights to criminal justice. But my main interests are civil rights and counterterrorism — and its impact at home and abroad.
But enough about me. I want to hear from you — in our comments section, Facebook page, or via email or Twitter @frontlinepbs. Let us know what you think about our stories, the site, and what more we should be covering. You can also reach me directly at sarah_childress at wgbh dot org.
I’ll look forward to hearing from you, and see you around.
