Bertelsmann AG is an international media conglomerate with divisions in books, magazines, television and radio broadcasting, music, and subscription-based music and book services. BMG Entertainment, its music division, has labels spread around the world, and reported E2.7 billion in revenues in fiscal year 2003. Bertelsmann has announced plans to merge BMG with Sony Entertainment, which would make it the second largest music distributor in the world. The merger is pending a ruling from the European Commission set to be made by July 22, 2004.
