Sometime around the end of May, Scherbinin and the Czech who had arrived with Dr. Vagner leave Minsk and travel to Moscow. There, they meet Baranov, who gives them 2 containers of HEU. Baranov also gives Scherbinin a photocopy of a certificate which lists the chemical properties of the uranium sample and indicates that it is uranium enriched to almost 88% U-235. Baranov asks for $800 per gram. He tells Scherbinin that he can up the price and use
the difference to pay off his debt.
Scherbinin and the Czech man travel by train from Moscow to Minsk to Warsaw to Prague. Scherbinin hides the uranium containers in his underwear as the train crosses international borders in order to avoid the scrutiny of customs officials.
