Each of the following activities includes learning objectives, ties to curriculum standards, and suggestions for Internet resources. Some activities can be used with any of the four FRONTLINE programs; others are recommended for use with a specific program. Choose the activities that best meet your needs and those of your students

Note: Curriculum standards are based on the recommendations of the Mid-continent Research for Education & Learning.

• Activity 1: The Roots of Hatred
  Students examine the roots, outcomes, and ongoing causes of Islamic fundamentalist violence.
  
  
• Activity 2: Defining Terrorism
  Students examine the disagreements over the term "terrorist" and the debate surrounding which groups and individuals should be so labeled.
  
  
• Activity 3: Defining an Ally
  Students consider what it means for countries to be "allies" of the U.S. and examine the factors influencing U.S. foreign policy and whether or not the United States holds all countries to the same standards.
  
  
• Activity 4: Views of bin Laden
  Students review geographical, cultural, political, and economic information about individual countries in the Middle East and Northern Africa.
  
  
• Activity 5: U.N. Simulations
  Students evaluate U.S. actions on the global stage and deepen their understanding of global politics.
  
  
• Activity 6: Making Connections: Reviewing Events in FRONTLINE Programs
  Students learn how events are linked and better understand cause and effect in the unfolding of history.
  
  
• Activity 7: Media and Perception
  Students practice media analysis skills and examine the role media plays in our understanding of global issues related to terrorism.
  
  
• Activity 8: Debates, Discussion Questions, and Writing Prompts
  Students explore a variety of issues related to modern-day terrorism and U.S. responses.
  
  
• Activity 9: How Are You Being Represented?
  Students engage with their elected representatives and track how those representatives voted on terrorism-related issues.
