Appraisal Transcript:
GUEST: I brought this bronze panther. I bought it in Paris in 1967.
APPRAISER: How much did you pay for it?
GUEST: About $20 or whatever the equivalent in...
APPRAISER: In francs at the time.
GUEST: That's correct.
APPRAISER: The artist is a chap by the name of Georges Lavroff, and he was Russian. He was born in 1895, and in 1927 he moved to Paris, where he created Art Deco bronze sculptures of animals.
GUEST: Okay.
APPRAISER: And in 1935, he moved back to Russia and continued to be a sculptor and painter. And then he died in 1991, so he had a very, very long life. This is a classic piece by Lavroff. Very Art Deco, very nicely formed. It's signed on the foot. I would put an auction estimate of $5,000 to $7,000 on it.
GUEST: Nice.
APPRAISER: So a pretty good investment on your $20.
GUEST: Really.
