Appraisal Transcript:
GUEST: This was actually a gift to us from a dear friend of ours who was an interior designer. It's been a piece that we just hang on the wall. I love the colors in it. You know, I like color, obviously, so...
APPRAISER: This particular rug is a rug woven in an area called the Caucasus. This type of Caucasian rug is generally referred to as a "Chichi," which is C-H-I-C-H-I. They tend to be a smaller format than the large carpets. It's roughly 3 x 3 feet, which is not unusual for a Chichi, but it's a nice square size. And they tend to be characterized by having a bold geometric pattern. And this clearly does.
GUEST: Yes, it does.
APPRAISER: I'd say that this is an early 20th century rug; it's quite old. I think if this came to auction today, you're probably talking about a valuation of $1,000 to $1,500.
GUEST: Wow, that is incredible.
APPRAISER: Yeah, it's quite a nice rug.
GUEST: I mean it was hanging on the wall, I didn't realize that. That's wonderful. That's very good news.
