GUEST: It was a table from one of my roommates I had during school. And it was on my side table next to milk cartons with, you know, all my sort of paraphernalia on it. Every time we move, I think about throwing it out or putting it in a garage sale.
APPRAISER: But you've always found a use for it, right?
GUEST: Every single time.
GUEST: It's small, it's compact, and it's worked really well for us.
APPRAISER: Well, the designer would be very happy to know that. And in fact, the designer is 96 years old. It was designed in the late 1950s by Jens Risom. He was born in Denmark, but he's an American designer and he fiercely defends his work as American Modern. He was one of the originators of the mid-century American aesthetic that is known for its pared down, simple and honest, humble materials. What I like about this is its really fantastic, good, honest, clean condition. And I think it would surprise me if this piece sold for less than $1,500.
GUEST: Oh, my God. Thank you. That's really... that's so neat.
