Q: What is AvantGo?

AvantGo is a free Internet service that delivers wireless content from sites including The New York Times, Salon, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and thousands of others to handheld Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) and WAP-enabled mobile phones. Users choose "channels" that are downloaded every time they sync their devices. Since most users still do not have the capability to browse the Web in real-time via a wireless modem, AvantGo allows users to download content to their devices for later reading. PBS users can add the PBS.org channel to their lineup either on AvantGo’s site or directly from PBS.org's Wireless PBS page.

Q: What parts of PBS.org can I view on my PDA?

A: Initially, we will be offering local PBS TV schedules, PBS Previews, in-depth news analysis from Online NewsHour, and the tech column "I, Cringely." We plan to offer more content from PBS.org for PDAs in the near future, so check back often!

Q: I get local PBS TV schedules on my PDA, but not on my computer when I visit PBS.org. Why?

A: You must go through a separate localization process to get local PBS.org content on your desktop. Please visit the Station Finder to localize your computer.

Q: I'm concerned about privacy issues online. Are you or AvantGo collecting any information about me?

A: PBS.org makes use of cookies in order to deliver localized content to users. We do not collect any personally identifiable information. Please see our Privacy Policy for more details. Q: I subscribed to the PBS Channel, but it didn't appear on my PDA even after I synced with AvantGo. What's the problem?

A: There could be many causes for this problem. First, try going through the sign-up process again, and be sure to hit the finish button at the end of the process. Also, be sure that you have enough space in your AvantGo account to allow for the addition of our channel. If you continue to have problems, please check AvantGo's extensive help section.
