PBS LearningMedia is a free online portal that houses over 50,000 digital learning objects created by local and national television programs and developed by stations.  Content is aligned by grade and subject level.  The resources below are from LearningMedia and organized by grade level.  Web based videos from the project as well as the segments from the documentary can be used to reinforce the teaching and learning process in each of these activities.


Inquiry-Based Park Rangers (grades K-2, 13+)

Listen to questioning techniques a park ranger uses with children on a field trip and examine how open-ended questions and real-world experiences can help.


Liberty Lands (grades 4-8)

Contaminated lands, known as brownfields, can also be recycled. In this What's Up In The Environment? video segment, see how biosolids produced by a wastewater treatment facility are used to improve the soil in a contaminated plot of land in Philadelphia called Liberty Lands.


Fighting to save a local park (grades 6-12)

In this video from Earth Island Institute's New Leaders Initiative, meet Misra Walker, an 18-year-old who lives in a section of the South Bronx in New York City called Hunts Point. Misra explains some of the conditions her community lives with because of significant industrial activity in the area


Recycling and Restoration (grades 4-12)

Bernheim, in Kentucky replaced the original swamp (a rich habitat for many different plant and animal species) with a new five-acre cypress-tupelo swamp at one end of a lake on the park grounds.
