STORYTELLER: My grandmother LOCATION: West Indies, Central Alabama YEAR TOOK PLACE: 1800s
TELLER'S PLACE OF ORIGIN: Dallas County and Autauga County, Alabama HOW HEARD: Oral History

My grandmother Lucy had a hand in the upbringing of the majority of her grandchildren's lives. I remember my grandmother speaking about her grandmother. She said that she was brought over from the West Indies as a slave. She lived to be 113 years old. My great-great grandmother must've come to this country during the mid to late 1800s. My grandmother was born in 1898 and she knew her.

I came to find out recently through family oral history that she may have come from Haiti, but have yet to confirm this. I'm researching this now.
