I watched the African-American lives presentation and thought it was very interesting. I was born and raised in Ghana. I currently live in Virginia. I have always marvelled at how much Africans back home and African Americans here look alike despite the mixed heritage. We as Africans also, as the experts pointed out, have migrated from place to place over the centuries. Some Africans also have mixed ancestry due to the European influence in Africa.

Oral history, from older relatives and general Ghanaian history, suggests that we were part of the 10 lost tribes out of Israel. Our traditions make that believable. My tribe, the GA-ADANGMES in GHANA, were believed to have migrated from the Benin Kingdom in Nigeria, who were believed to have migrated from North-East Africa. I lived in Nigeria for a few years, and most people believed I was Nigerian. I found that to be fascinating. I sure would like to add my DNA to this African pool, if that's possible, to help others find out their possible places of origin.

I have seen other presentations by Henry Louis Gates, Jr., and think this piece is the best yet! Kudos!
