HE COULD READ AND WRITE. HIS MILITARY DOCUMENTS IN THE SERVICE IS SIGN BY HIM. HE HAD TO PROVE WHO HE WAS WHEN HE PUT IN FOR A PENSION. HE BECAME A MINISTER . HIS FATHER WAS ALSO A MILLER. SOME OTHER MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY WAS IN THE SAME UNIT AS HE WAS WHICH WAS THE 104 USCT UNDER MAJOR MARTIN DELANY THE FIRST BLACK OFFICER ASSIGNED IN THE SOUTH TO FORM THIS INFANTRY AND OTHERS
