George Hall was my great great grand-father and was an escape slave from Alabama. He left the plantation and ran away. When the master found that he was gone, he got the dogs and began to chase him. He first got in front of a plow what he called a "mowing machine". Thinking this would cause his scent to be lost. This did not work, so he next went in to a barn and stole a scyth used for cutting down hay. He ran to the river, and as the dogs came up to him he slit their throats and sent their body down the river, and that how he was able to escape his master.
