This is about our family tree. We have traced it back eight generations. We recently learned that the 3 brothers who were freed took new and different names. William took the name Long- my father's grandfather-and one took the name Jackson. We do not know what name the third brother took.

The other significant event took place in 1908. That is when William's (mentioned above)son- Dr. George Waldo Long- took over as President of one the Presbyterian schools that was established. It was Coulter Memorial Academy in Cheraw S. C. He revived the school , added a 2 year accredited junior college and graduated many African Americans before it closed in 1949.
