2006 Results from mtDNA analysis

Inspired by African American Lives, I submitted my mtDNA for analysis. The results indicated the very ancient haplogroup L0 which is found in Mozambique and Brazil but rarely in the USA. The mtDNA that matched mine is from a gentleman whose maternal grandmother was born in Portugal of Jewish descent. My maternal grandmother was born in Virginia as were both her parents. According to the mtDNA results, his Portuguese grandmother and my African American grandmother were related.
