I was told that family on Father's side all were of irish decent, blue eyes and blond hair and that my great great uncle allowed his son to pass for white. My grandfather was very brown and did not want my dad to marry my mom because he said she was too dark. The pictures I've seen my mom was lighter than him. My Dad's mother (my grandmother) was Mohawk Indian just said their lives together was very rough.
